Daughter are another band who are making big waves in the blogosphere and are hotly tipped to make their breakthrough in 2012. Having released their Wild Youth EP late last year they garnered critical acclaim from virtually every publication out there and recently they came 5th in the Blog Sound of 2012, a shortlist put together by a wide range of blogs in order to rival the BBC’s Sound of 2012 poll.
Although still unsigned, Daughter (consisting of Elena Tonra, Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella) put in a number of impressive festival performances at the likes of Bestival, Lounge On The Farm, Reading and Leeds and have been invited to support Ben Howard on his sold out February UK Tour, including two dates at London Shepherd’s Bush Empire. You can get a taste for their music with the song that is currently playing. Called ‘Love’, it has been taking from the Wild Youth EP.
They have also just released a video for ‘Youth’, again lifted from the Wild Youth EP, which has been taken from a live performance at St Giles In The Fields Church, London. It’s a great track that shows off a real vulnerability and a heartbreaking reality of love. ‘And if you’re in love, then you are the lucky one’ sings Elena, ”Cause most of us are bitter over someone. Setting fire to our insides for fun/ To distract our hearts from ever missing them.’
You can watch the video below.
If they carry on like this then Daughter is definitely a name that you will be hearing a lot more of over the coming year.
