It’s rare that something truly unique happens within the music world these days but that’s exactly what seems to be happening with the release of Leeds based This Many Boyfriends’ new single, ‘Starling’. Taking a step back (or forwards) from the standard single release, they have decided to release ‘Starling’ as an exclusive fanzine where the song will be accompanied by stories, recipes, pop quizzes and other lesser spotted sightings, all hand drawn by the band themselves. It’s your chance to own something that’s really been put together with care and attention, instead of just chucking on a few B-Sides or something.
As for the track itself; it’s pretty damn good. It kicks off sounding like The Smiths would sound if Morrissey knew what a smile was and then continues at an infectious pace with twinkly guitars and rolling drums. It even finishes things off with a guitar solo, which is something that more bands should do! You can listen to it yourself through the widget below.
