Phantom Limb are gearing up to release the first single from their sophomore album, The Pines which is set to hit the shelves on February 13th. The song, which is also the title track, comes out on Monday 12th December and is a fantastic slice of gospel infused country, held together by the remarkable voice of Yolanda Quartey. While you might think that the band would hail from the southern states of America they actually are a rag tag ensemble of British session musicians, vocalists and song writers who base themselves in Bristol.
‘The Pines’ is a rambunctious and infectious effort with the twang of acoustic guitars and mandolins, strong harmonies and soaring vocals. Yolanda’s vocals really are quite special, sandwiched somewhere between classic rock, country and soul and they elevate the song to a whole new level. If this is anything to go by then the album will be a bit special.
